Misclassified Workers Harm the Economy

According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Illinois employers misclassified nearly 20,000 of their workers as independent contractors last year. As a result of wrongly misclassifying workers, employers skipped out on more than $250 million in wages and contributions to funds that support laid-off and injured workers.
